Parks Are More Than Recreation Programs

In addition to picnic areas and playgrounds, parks can include equestrian trails, hiking and biking trails, camping facilities, beaches, boat ramps, and historical landmarks. Examine two parks systems from Florida and California and the similar challenges they face in increasing service level demands, aging infrastructure, and budget reductions. Discover how they have modified their maintenance and operations to adapt to current situations, and developed effective and efficient performance measures and systems for tracking, comparing, and benchmarking.

By attending this session, participants will be better able to:

  • Discern how infrastructure needs for parks are similar from geographic region to region.
  • Discover methods to reorganize maintenance operations to accommodate changing needs and increased demands..
  • Gain knowledge about how parks organizations can implement cost efficiencies and energize the labor force.

Speakers:
Timothy Baylie
Director, Volusia County Parks and Recreation, Deland, FL

Michael Brajdic
